Community College vs Four-Year College Essay

Many people feel that being in a community college is effortless. Students studying in a four-year college speculate that those students who are enrolled in a community college are â€Å"living the life†, meaning they do not have any worries about anything and are taking the easy way out to achieve some sort of degree or certification. However, most four-year college students’ assumptions are false. We face many varieties of issues that we need to deal with on a daily basis. Some few examples are transportation, family, work and so on. Both colleges maybe receiving the same level of education but for a community college student, it is more than just the education. I, for example, drive to school every day from Dumont to Paramus which is about thirty minutes away not including the traffic during peak hours. Right now the price for a gallon of gas is about $3. 65; my car is a V6 engine and takes about 2 gallons of gas back and forth Bergen Community College. Unlike four-year colleges, they have onsite dorms that are centered on their main building for an easier access to their school. Sometimes they have free campus shuttles to bring them from one building to another. Next is family, students who are in a four-year colleges does not have to deal with their family since they are away from home. Unlike us, students in community colleges, we must take part in helping with our family. Whenever I get home from my morning classes, I clean the kitchen, take out the trash and run errands that need to be done. Then there is also the thought of having to for pay the gas for our cars or bus fees for those who do not own a car. How do we earn money? By working! Compare to students who are in a four-year college, all of their expenses are covered by their financial aid and tuition fees that their parents paid. Most of the people I know who are in a four-year college also receives weekly allowance from their parents. As for us, the students in a community college, most of us work in order to fill our cars with gas to attend school and have enough money for our own extra expenses. I prefer to provide my own income rather than ask my parents for money. They already work hard to pay for my tuition fees, and the least I could do is pay for my extra expenses such as gas. Overall, in my own opinion, being a community-college student is not an easy thing even though we may sound effortless; we still face much more variety of issues on a daily basis.

Are Parents the Best Teachers?

Obviously, the first teachers we have in our lives in most cases are our parents. They teach us to walk, to speak, and to have good manners before we reach â€Å"the real world. † More than even the professional teachers that we have in school, parents are generally the most involved in the development and education of children. Almost for sure our parents are the best teachers at the beginning of our lives, which actually corresponds to the parents' role in nature. Parents are most committed and involved in teaching their children; they have a kind of instinct to sacrifice a part of themselves for the betterment of their children.They love us and have great patience while passing down their knowledge to us. They wish us a success and thus will not teach us bad things. And of course, implicit learning occurs when children unconsciously copy some of their parents' habits and styles of behavior. During the second stage of child development, adolescence, parents can still be in t he best position to offer advice even though the children might not accept it. In this case, perhaps the child's friends would be the best teachers. Adolescents are notoriously rebellious in many cultures and may automatically reject any advice from their parents.My first marriage for instance, was solely a matter of doing the opposite when my parents tried to intrude in offering their advice. So in such matters, parents should be much more flexible and be rather the partners with their children. So we can see that being a teacher of growing child become more and more complicated case as the time passes and many parents are simply not able to meet the increased demands. On the other hand, I would say that parents are not professional teachers and they tend to be very biased by their love of their children.So wishing good things and an easy life may prevent children from maturation. In any case, parents usually can present only one viewpoint of the world, while good teaching should b e based on different attitudes. Thus, when children go to school and have a great diversity of teachers, they learn much more than their parents could probably give them. Furthermore, once our parents get older, they become more conservative and cannot always be objective in regard to modern trends and fashions. Thus we need to take their advice with caution during that period.However, some kind of intuition which I believe shared between relatives about what everybody needs and great love which exists in a families still makes our parents very good teachers and advisers at any time. In conclusion, while parents are not the ideal teachers, and well-rounded children will generally need a great diversity of teachers in their lives in order to have a more accurate view of the world, parents are generally the most committed of all teachers and have the greatest emotional investment in their children and their future.

In my workplace where power seems to motivate the higher rank, there is no reason to believe that McClelland was not right about his theory. Finally, Herzberg’s motivation theory is widely known as motivation-hygiene theory or two-factor theory. For Herzberg, there must be two essential factors that affect people’s performance especially in their jobs. Those factors that lead them to satisfaction are called motivation factors and those that cause them dissatisfaction are hygiene factors. Herzberg identified six top factors that will lead to dissatisfaction: company policy, supervision, relationship with boss, work conditions, salary and relationsh ip with peers. On the other hand, the identified top six factors that will lead to satisfaction among people are achievement, recognition, work itself, responsibility, advancement and growth. These are specific factors but in reality, this is real and existing in my work place because many employees were actually dissatisfied with the management due to poor company policy and low standard supervision. When these three theories are to be compared, there is one single commonality that can be identified in them. These three try to consider the human needs. These needs are assumed to be what will motivate human in the most possible way. The three theories are all able to pinpoint the basic and general human needs in life and they all imply satisfaction when experience to the fullest. This satisfaction in general results to motivation to work and continue doing things that fulfill satisfaction. In short, the three theories do not eliminate the possibility of experience as tantamount to i dentifying what seems to be pleasing and ensure satisfaction. What differentiates these three theories from each other is their level of identification of the human needs. The identification of Maslow seems to be specific and hierarchical while the idea of Herzberg is two dimensional and involves great deal of clustering human needs. Finally, the idea of McClelland seems quite general but it still encompasses the all level of human needs.
